CERN annual relay race
Who knew that physicists could run? Indeed, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) has a running club! Every year they organise races where different teams, both from CERN and visitors, come together and compete.
Global Hope Network International was kindly invited to their relay race on the 20th of May where we set up tent with a table that was jam-packed with photos, newsletters and volunteers. With the strong wind, it was great fun lashing everything down and making sure that our information flyers didn't fly away. We also had a Persian rug with pillows nearby where people could sit down and chat with two volunteers (dressed in Afghani clothes) and have tea and biscuits.
We all had a great time, with many people learning about the work we do and getting involved. One thing that particularly struck people was how they could use their interests and talents to support projects and raise awareness. Running is a brilliant example of how easy it is to help, and what better place to find runners than at a racing event!
We just want to thank the people at CERN and everyone else that made this day possible and all those that showed an interest in Bringing Help and Hope to the Hidden and Hurting.
GHNI half-marathon, Annecy
On Sunday April 18, a team of 6 runners ran a half marathon (21km) in Annecy, France, to raise funds for GHNI Switzerland. They were looking for sponsors who could encourage them at their effort and support the work of GHNI financially. There was one more runner, who due to the cancelled flight couldn’t make it to the half marathon and ran his 21 km where he was, in Beirut, Lebanon.
All of them did a great job and we are very thankful for their time, effort and energy they put into the training, the run itself and raising funds for GHNI!

Dear Friends,
Has your heart been touched by the unbelievable horror on the individual faces of the victims of the earthquake in Haiti? I know our staff’s hearts have been, especially since we have friends from there.
Credible on the ground partners need immediate help
Global Hope Network International Switzerland is partnering with aid workers with a long history of effective work in Haiti. We have chosen them because they make maximum use of the resources given them and because they possess a long term view of true development to self sustainability after the relief phase.
One of our partners, Santa Fe Swanee in Tampa Bay Inc., is a shipper that has 20 containers of water, dried nutrious food mixtures and medical supplies he is loading even as we speak. These precious supplies will be shipped by small crafts to internally displaced people in Haiti to be delivered to remote places.
Our other partner provides primary education and healthcare to some really needy communities near the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince. Their clinic has been damaged and they are currently operating out of a makeshift clinic that locals are flocking to in order to receive treatment. They are in desperate need of medical supplies, bottled water and food as well as assistance to help rebuild the medical clinic.

All of our staff have been driven to action by this earthquake. Like you, we won't go there. Our partners on the ground will do that. But we want to help them and the dear ones they serve to.

Exciting news from Myanmar!
Thanks to your generosity (thank you for coming to our concerts with benefit of Myanmar in Thoiry in June 2009 and in Geneva in Nov 2009), we were able to raise enough funds to purchase 11 pigs and a plowing machine and we almost finished building a house for the orphans (see the attached pictures). All these things help the orphans on the way to self-sustainability. The children want to thank you with the last attached picture (it was taken when we were there in Aug 2009).
